I.C.O.N

DRAWINGS

The I.C.O.N drawings cycle represents an investigation into the concept of one / unity.

The drawings are like fractals, apparently they repeat themselves in the form in different sizes. The Unit is represented through the repetition of elements.

Each drawing is a commissioned portrait that the artist performs live.

Man doesn’t accept the irrational, he doesn’t accept the hypothesis of not being able to rationalize every question, up to a point, that point beyond which there is something that escapes him and then entrusts the answer to something that goes beyond.

I started from the neurosciences, defining an artistic model of a cognitive model, analyzing the evolution of the portrait in history.

" Each drawing is a Portrait; I draw what my eyes see: the light, the shadows and the darkness inside people's soul.

I want to paint a different plane of existence, depicting what some might want to hide, the pure part. My drawings are portraits that portray the immaterial part of men. I don't care about body, I care about what lives inside it, in this way inside each drawing the immaterial fight between light and darkness is shown; the stylized face is the battlefield, in which everything takes place in an eternal present." GMS

The series is made with pen, ink and metal pigments on fabric and paper, the dimensions range from 2 cm to 4 meters and in each drawing there is a performance imprint that creates a layer within the work.

Through contemplation of the silent, the artist turns her body into a filter between the ethereal dimension and an earthling dimension, establishing an intuitive listening based on the direct communication between the two worlds.

DRAWINGS

The I.C.O.N drawings cycle represents an inquiry into the - Divine and Humans image - in the contemporary society.

"Each drawing is a portrait; I draw what my eyes see, the light, the shadows, and the darkness inside people’s soul”. GMS

Through contemplation of the silent, the artist turns her body into a filter between the ethereal dimension and an earthling dimension, establishing an intuitive listening based on the direct communication between the two worlds.

In that way the artist explores the tension of a ritual process strongly related to her performance practice, giving shape at the same time to what she defines "MY CONTEMPORARY ICON".

The entire series is made with pen and ink on fabric and paper, the dimensions of the drawings range from 5 cm to 5 meters.

The I.C.O.N Drawings examine possible forms of interaction between signs of the same image and images of the same series. Reacting like a fractal, each stroke inspires the next one, as in a climax where surface gradually encounters a conscious and structured decaying.

Every image and sign survive even as individual form, but in constant need of each other, like real bodily figures.

Each image, i.e. in series n.1, behaves in a double appearance. Once removing the drawing on fabric from its cardboard back support, the latter reveals its pictorial-sculptural aspect, which discloses sketches and artist body's footprints.

I.C.O.N

DRAWINGS
